I really love MassArt, and in part, i'm being selfish, because i'd love to still have some connection with what our wonderful department is doing. So please, feel free to email PhotoSGA@gmail.com to have the blog updated with anything relevant:  Websites, shows, awards, lectures, neat photo tips.

SLEEPLESS - An exhibition of recent photographs / audio / video
June 4, 2010 - July 17, 2010
Receptions: Friday, June 4, 2010 - 5:30-7:30pm
& Friday, July 9, 2010 - 5:30-7:30pm

Through a series of photographs, layered audio recordings and video, Sleepless examines the contradiction between our expectations about sleep and its nocturnal actuality. Sleep connotes rest, peacefulness and stillness. It is expected to recharge us in preparation for our next day’s activities. The reality is starkly different. A majority of Americans get less sleep than their bodies need (9-10 hours for children and 8-8.5 hours for adults), and approximately 50-70 million Americans suffer from sleep disorders. Our sleep is reduced and interrupted by the myriad nocturnal noises and activities of urban life, from the drone of our roads, highways and transportation systems to the barrage of light “noise” emitted from our street lamps, skyscrapers and neighbors.

My photographs and videos reveal a state of restlessness through the ethereal and translucent bodies which are captured during long-exposure nighttime shots. The resultant images are nighttime narratives – stories of our night’s sleep which suggest a contemporary sleep crisis in our society.

The security from tower

who always says "hello, have a nice day." Visited the Senior Thesis Show and gave me a copy of the poem he wrote about it to share with y'all.

"Senior Photography Thesis- 2010"
(Points of Time Which Reflect the Spirit, Apexes of the Mind)

It's all in their presentations,
as you look way down that hall,
names & set-ups full of wonder,
  new kaleidoscopes so bold,
so professional & pleasing,
  inspirational & all,
thier emotions are so visual,
& the imaginations seems to call,
full of courage they move forward,
  their empowerment is hold,
it's a vision which is measured,
  full of power and control,
view this conflict full of promis,
as this spectrum fills you whole,
check their photos full of stories,
see these students share it all,
frames which hold & grab attention,
  as thier photos portray all,
simple objects & heart felt moments,
every one of them a show,
every one of them a treasure,
of that special point in time,
so tune-in with dedication,
as they hang there all in-line,
silent records of a timeline,
sacred goals which touch the mind,
every color of the rainbow,
  blends & merges so devine,
their commitment is revealing,
  every step along those lines,
on those images of pleasure,
on those riches from their minds,
enjoy all those hidden nuggets...
