Job Opportunity, Massachusetts Photo Documentation Project

Job Opportunity, Massachusetts Photo Documentation Project

The Center for Art and Community Partnerships at MassArt (CACP) seeks to hire 8-10 photography majors to visit sites in and around Greater Boston to document the impact of federal stimulus funding on the people of Massachusetts. Students will work with a team comprised of MassArt faculty, staff, and the Massachusetts Recovery and Reinvestment Office (MRRO), which oversees the distribution and spending of stimulus funding in Massachusetts. The MRRO will use the photographs as records of the impact of stimulus money on the state and also for the MRRO’s public presentations, printed reports, and possibly for an exhibition.

Each photographer (or, depending on the project, a pair of photographers) will work on one site—a community center, a construction site, or a school. Contacts will be arranged in advance, but students will be working independently with the staff at the sites. The goal is to produce effective documentary photographs, including captions. Students will be paid by the hour, and some subsidies for film are available. Students are also encouraged to work in digital, as the work will need be submitted as digital files, with captions. Students will begin work in December/early January 2010.

Joanne Lukitsh, Professor, History of Art; Barbara Bosworth, Professor, Photography; and Laura McPhee, Professor, Photography will supervise the project and edit the work, with Tina Hinojosa, Interim Director of CACP, who will coordinate the project with the MRRO.
